What’s It All About?

What is the Community Growers Project?

Grow Sheffield started The Community Growers Project to provide communities across Sheffield with the support, skills and confidence they need to grow and harvest their own food.  The project will create a network of 12 Community Growing projects across the city, from which skilled co-ordinators will inspire and give local people the skills to grow their own organic fruit and vegetables.  This could be in communal spaces, individual gardens or on balconies, amongst other places.

What’s happening at St Mary’s?

St Mary’s Community Centre received a grant from the Climate Change Fund to start up a growing hub with some help from Grow Sheffield.  We have the raw materials – raised beds, soil, seed and tools.  It’s up to you what happens next.  If you have a project you’d like to start or group who would like to use the hub get in contact with Beth (bethan.grow@gmail.com).

If you want to get involved or have a resource you would like to contribute, check out projects who are looking for some elbow grease, skills and other useful stuff on the ‘Projects’ page.

It doesn’t matter how green-fingered you are.  Everybody has skills to bring and share to the project.

Who’s Beth?

The Community Growers Co-ordinator for the St Mary’s hub.  She’ll be with St Mary’s for a year to help groups create sustainable long term growing projects.
